The BlackBerry Security Incident Response Team has now announced they have begun the rollout of the May Android security update for BlackBerry smartphones. As per normal, once downloaded and installed, you should see your security patch level change and this time around, it will appear as May 1, 2017, or later.
As with every security update, BlackBerry notes that the updated software version is available immediately for BlackBerry powered by Android smartphones that have been purchased from ShopBlackBerry.com but devices purchased elsewhere such as retailers or carriers are dependent on their own deployment schedules.
BlackBerry, in the past, has done great with pushing out security updates but we would be remiss if we didn't mention that April saw a few bumps in the road. As it stands, most folks have now received the April update, but it did inexplicably arrive later than it has in previous months. In any case, hopefully, if you haven't received the April update as of yet, you'll just jump right into the May update instead.
