Welcome back to this week's BlackBerry App Roundup! The past week brought several updates to popular apps including Twitter for BlackBerry, Foursquare for BlackBerry, Shortcut Me, and Facebook v2 for BlackBerry. If you haven't checked those out yet, you're going to want to be sure to do it. Twitter and Facebook were rolled out via BlackBerry Beta zone so if you haven't signed up there yet and you're interested head on over and get that taken care of. I hate waking up in the morning, and I'll admit I am addicted to the snooze button. I use my BlackBerry as my alarm, and there have been a few close calls where I actually turned my alarm off instead of hitting snooze. FastContactor by MobiCreel Software

FastContactor allows you to call, email, text, or PIN contacts directly from ALL of your BlackBerry menus. Now you can contact friends and co-workers without exiting the application you're running. The application supports 10 slots that you can customize for any contact in your address book. You can add an option in the menu called 'Call Mom', 'Email Sam at work', or 'Text John', and with a couple button presses the application will call your mother, or create a new email message to Sam. You can name each menu slot whatever you like, and best of all, any updates to your BlackBerry address book are immediately reflected in the application. FastContactor works in all native applications, as well as the vast majority of third party applications. This means it will work in the Calendar, Tasks, Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, and more.

What You Might Have Missed

BreakingNews for BlackBerry by ShaoSoft

The app is brand new and currently in open beta, but it already looks to be a best seller. The premise is simple - enter a few RSS feeds, choose your options and let the good times scroll. BreakingNews shows a ticker on your homescreen and runs through the RSS feeds, showing you the latest news. Currently you can choose the display options like border and font color, set the refresh interval as well as enter up to 5 different feeds.

WikiSaver by Casey Wylde

WikiSaver by Casey Wylde is a cool little program that acts as a screen saver when you plug in your BlackBerry to charge. When plugged in, a random page from Wikipedia shows on your BlackBerry screen. If you click the trackpad/trackball or hit the back button the screen disappears.

You can also use WikiSaver when your BlackBerry is not plugged in. If you click the icon you will also be shown a random page from Wikipedia, but you can always use the search function at the top if there is something specific you are looking for. I spoke with Casey and was told there are plans to add additional websites to the application, so if Wikipedia isn't your cup of tea, you will soon have other options.

WikiSaver is available for $1.99 and is compatible with most BlackBerry devices. As Casey is relatively new to BlackBerry application developement, any questions and constructive comments regarding the app are appreciated.
